We often get asked;
Names: Where did Denise and Dennis come from?
Many times children were named after parents, grandparents or even Saints. (Sometimes after a Dad or Mom)
It is a long held tradition, one I thought I could follow although a new name would be created. Sometimes traditions work and then there are those that don’t work or those that change. In naming Gina and Dennis I wanted to follow Italian traditions but knew some of the old family names may not work, therefore I used Dennis and Denise for the middle names.
It followed tradition but used my name instead of others. There were many other names but these were the ones we could decide on.
As far as naming by Saints: To this day there are no Saints named Gina or Dennis other than those we feel are: Dennis and Denise. To me, (Dennis and Denise) will always be our Saints! So with that knowledge I am still happy to have a Denise and a Dennis!
For names, it was done like this: There was Gina Lollobrigida and in the ’50s she was considered by many to be the world’s most beautiful woman. Which we loved the name, but then we saw a beautiful lady photographer named Gina and decided to use it. Neil Armstrong was an American astronaut and the first person to walk on the Moon in the 1960’s.
Gina was a famous Italian name and Neil was a famous astronaut at the time. We are proud of their names and probably would not change them today.
Of course there is still the Dennis and Denise…..LOL that is something you must figure out.
Now you know how and why you got your names.
Have fun in life.
Your, crazy Dad!
